State of mind

Coming back to the States three weeks now, I am still a bit of unwilling to re-plug into the society. Not much desire to participate the US society in large. I guess I am thinking about the future: where would it lie if I were to have a great future? China, or America? The future of the world economy is in China. The future of happiness? If one can not fully plug into a society, how can he get the happiness his intelligence/mind deserves?

8pm, 08,08,08

Here it comes, the 29th Summer Olympic Game, to Beijing.

I am utterly speechless about the opening ceremony: beyond spectacular. I have never seen any artistic performance in such a articulate way with such a big scale.

I love China, I love being a Chinese.

Peace

I have been restless, seeing so many of my close friends moving on to great entrepreneurial path. Is my desire to be my own boss coming out of necessity from within? Or is it just fad of random thoughts? Have I thought hard and fully about what I am about to take on? While voices from millions directions keep calling on me. I found this great piece:

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Friendsforsale: Facebook App

Only when I looked deeper into this Facebook app that I started to realize why it's popular and understand its brilliance. It assign a "value" to a FB user which is determined by the market: people who are willing to trade her/him as a pet. Its smart is in that it uses the simple supply and demand principle of market economy: the more a property (a.k.a, pet in this game) is demanded in the market, the more it worths. And this pet or user's overall impact on the FB society is realized unintentionally, yet precisely.

I always have this theory of ones' value depends on how influential s/he has over eco-system s/he is in. In the App I designed for FB, I used the frequency of a user interacts with Facebook to determine his/her value, which now I feel inappropriate: A person's value has to be determined by the market - other people in the eco-system, not by how often s/he interacts or acts upon facebook, which should be the cash or salary s/he can earn. The value and salary are complete different things.

The question is: how should I deviate from original algorithm?
