Friendsforsale: Facebook App
Only when I looked deeper into this Facebook app that I started to realize why it's popular and understand its brilliance. It assign a "value" to a FB user which is determined by the market: people who are willing to trade her/him as a pet. Its smart is in that it uses the simple supply and demand principle of market economy: the more a property (a.k.a, pet in this game) is demanded in the market, the more it worths. And this pet or user's overall impact on the FB society is realized unintentionally, yet precisely.I always have this theory of ones' value depends on how influential s/he has over eco-system s/he is in. In the App I designed for FB, I used the frequency of a user interacts with Facebook to determine his/her value, which now I feel inappropriate: A person's value has to be determined by the market - other people in the eco-system, not by how often s/he interacts or acts upon facebook, which should be the cash or salary s/he can earn. The value and salary are complete different things.
The question is: how should I deviate from original algorithm?
