A soulful talk night

I had a great evening speaking with sponsors and partners for my startup's upcoming launch party in 111 minna at SF. It was great.

Freedom means the opportunity to be what we never thought we would be.

A weekend of club cruising

To better understand what is out there being popular, I spent the weekend (Friday and Saturday) cruised major club scenes in San Francisco. The "Not your boy band" DJ at Saturday night was probably most fitting the launch party style. It was drizzling night. I had Martini that night, It was a pretty strong drink with olives in there. I was sitting by the bar, the DJ was awesome. The spins are dancable and very smooth. I did not have to do anything already having lot of fun. Then it came this cute girl sitting right next to me. She is slim, tall, great dancer, a little bit tartoo on her back. She tapped on my back, I turned around toward her, she was smiling at me, probably curious what I was doing all alone in that club. I smiled back. She is cute, pretty, not enough to get my heart pumping so I let it slipped. She tapped me again, smiled, turned toward me...It felt good to have pretty girl appreciate you, always. I stopped by cat club the same night, the SF night's air was wet, but fresh, and mixed with grilled onion, where was it? It was the new mexican boy who was selling hot dog under a street light, I love that scene, not hungry at all, I still bought the $3 hot dog, chatted a little with the bouncer at the door, learning it would be nice for him to make $200 a night, which does seem to be possible. Then I walked in this nasty club with all guys, it was smoky, lots of normal looking asian guys, it turned out a gay bar..not my scene. There is always homeless guys walking on the SF streets, a black guy (who is actually young and good looking) said hi to me, before he asked, I took out my wallet and gave him a dollar: I know how hard it is to have no home to return. It was raining, cold, no friends, no home, the least I can do is a dollar and a smile, a small talk.

Saturday: It almost rained (drizzled) whole day, I found it hard to believe that noone would play soccer in such a fine day, therefore I parked by Tresidder on campus, first time since new year, the coho was open, I forgot to mention that I got Macdonald Friday night and a book named a "native speaker" from Menlo Park downtown bookstore, a very cozy place to grab a book and read. Lake Laconita finally had water in it, and a few geeze, ducking, and birds I could not tell the name. Everything is foggy, white, green, breezy, a little motor boat was submerged in the water, I walked over to have a look, two young girls in shorts also walked over, "was it really a boat", one asked, "Only if it's not submerged". I really liked her answer. I have a thing for rain, liked to walk in it, get my hair wet, face wet, it actually felt good when I was holding a hot coffee from Coho and book under my arm, a casual feeling.

Ok, what about Saturday night. I RSVPed three clubs, snowed up only after 12 am which void all three. The SOMA was incredibly busy even after midnight, club six is a chain of two clubs next to each other playing hiphop, lot of hiphop crowds that I normally don't feel comfortable with. I was meant to check out the $7 live hiphop event and the DJs. They were good in hiphop standard, all whites though, the audience was also mainly whites, young. I decided to move on. Driving around city at night is fun. Lots of people lined up or hang around DNA area, mainly asians. Not my thing. Endup is my last place to check out, the door and street were quiet, there was no single soul outside the club. The cover became $10 after 12am, sucky me. The bouncer said it was good, lot of people. So I paid and went in. Quite a big place and I heard familiar 80s and faces that I often bumped into at Thursday's cat club. It was not until later that younger and more normal sexy looking crowd started showing up, this is the crowd that I want to target. I liked my outfit, all soccer stuff. I guess i looked hot, whenever I put up some dance moves. A few girls stared at me the whole time, one of these was probably my height (5'11), she has cuttest nose in the world, she resembles Katie Holmes. I danced with two incredible girls, one has really tiny tits, but extremely pretty face with her hair covered all the way to the edge of her large blue eyes, reminded me Gaia. We had insane amount of eye contacts, touches, we danced long and close, lot of thoughts emerged in my mind before we both disappeard into the purple musics.

Coldplay: talk

Oh brother I can't, I can't get through
I've been trying hard to reach you, cause I don't know what to
do
Oh brother I can't believe it's true
I'm so scared about the future and I wanna talk to you
Oh I wanna talk to you
You can take a picture of something you see
In the future where will I be?
You can climb a ladder up to the sun
Or write a song nobody has sung
Or do something that's never been done

Are you lost or incomplete?
Do you feel like a puzzle, you can't find your missing piece?
Tell me how do you feel?
Well I feel like they're talking in a language I don't speak
And they're talking it to me

So you take a picture of something you see
In the future where will I be?
You can climb a ladder up to the sun
Or a write a song nobody has sung
Or do something that's never been done
Do something that's never been done

So you don't know were you're going, and you wanna talk
And you feel like you're going where you've been before
You tell anyone who'll listen but you feel ignored
Nothing's really making any sense at all
Let's talk, let's ta-a-alk
Let's talk, let's ta-a-alk

Mystic reiver

Food network shows this little resturant at Mystic, Conneticut called Kitchen Little, what a great name! Unusal usual is just another one of the dishes' name on this little resturant's 45 items breakfast manu.

So many inspiration from food network in one night, what a treat!

bare naked cereal

Kelly and her friend Brandan started this business at 23, 12 hours a day, half a year without income. In half a year, they were so frustrated and they eventually approached a $300 million dollar retailer and got their first big order.

Result: reach to the market

Next milestone: Kelly and Brandon decided to take different roles, Kelly does the recipe, new product development, Brandon does the marketing and sales.

Attending trade show such as fancy food show, give them more opportunity to reach out the customer. BY the end of the first year, they are able to bring $50k paycheck to home.

Another great example of starting from 0, everytime I heard of this kind of story, my blood boiling and heart pumping...I got to do my own start up.

Let someday be today.

My video iPod

I got my video iPod today, have been enjoying "two Chinese boys" on youtube.com, video is going to be big!

The haircut

The haircut, my favorite family lowkey haircut shop located on the most expansive shopping mall: stanford shopping mall, lost its lease for that storefront and are forced to shut down business, after 22 years on the spot. Starbucks will instead occupy this new hot spot.

Let potential customer be customer

Let them use the quality product in front of you, they will buy it.

That is how I bought my video ipod, after playing with my friend's video ipod on our ride to vegas. Can't stop loving this great gadget. The design is so elegant that I could not resist to buy it. Of course, I searched high and low and bought it using my out-of-date stanford SUid at $269. can't beat that deal!

This girl is very similar to me

From projects to projects

That is the way to go.

Video is the word of the this year's CES. What can I do with it?

Food network often puts up nice shows such as kitch makeover (of course, cooporated with HGTV) and resturant startup. Today's show is exceptionaly entertaining where it shows how design (again and again, from the recent experiences, reports) and word of mouth (face time experiences with customer) are important.

This idea maybe borrowed into VC field. I emailed Phil to see if he is interested in setting up a local conference organization first to give direct face time for potential entreprenuer and investors. The project can be started with those related to our 5 senses: something smell good, taste good, looks good, functions well and can be demonstrated directly.

Screen writing

I am considering to devote 30 minutes a day to screen writing or booking writing in Chinese.

Las vegas' Tyson

There can be a lot of things to say about Tyson, a beautiful dancer that I befriended with in our short Christmas vacation in Las Vegas. Tyson is, Aaliyah. The ultimate black girl that I fell in love with after watching movie "Romeo must die". Aaliyah was long gone more than 5 years ago in a tragic plane crash. I cried days before setting my mood back to normal. I remembered Aaliyah walk out her flower shop with that innocent sunny smile, I was thinking: how could there possibly be a creature like this, an angel.

Then I met Tyson, two years ago in Vegas. She is Aaliyah, as beautiful, she has that identical smile that melted me. For some reason, we did not hook up for a dance but I would never forget her gorgeous smile.

Here came the Christmas of 2005, Bo and I spend two days on the road trip to Vegas, my 2nd trip to sin city in 2005. Tyson and I finally got to meet, danced, flirted, chatted, had breakfast. She said I am a party starter who is liked by everyone, I told her I love her smile and kept asking to smile for me. I told her I was never really attracted by a black girl except Aaliyah and I am looking at her more as a person not a "black" girl. She is quite funny:"but government considers me black", that ends our racial discussion and we happily moved on to an exotic place for breakfast.

Days passed, I have been thinking about her, a lot.
